A result of a day at the beach. Staring at the water today reminded me of a book I owned that first made me want to be an illustrator - The Little Mermaid (the Hans Christian Anderson version) with illustrations by Charles Santore. My copy of the book is long gone by now, and I have always meant to get a new one, but it just hasn't happened yet. Luckily the internet has everything on it... And I can easily locate Santore's work whenever I want to see it.

I'm going to attempt to post sketches and finishes together. I always seem to like the sketch better - I some how get distracted from my original intent while playing around with the colors in the final.
